Brilliantly written by Jhumpa Lahiri, a Pulitzer winning author in 2004 and the movie adaptation was by extremely talented Mira Nair. Both whom I consider masters of their art.
I have since purchased the DVD and watched it 10045 times, the number which I have come to not by counting but by mere love for the movie! This movie celebrates family, love and the meaning of these words across generations and culture. With captivating performances, Irfan Khan and Tabu, who played the roles of the parents displayed and conveyed emotions that I can relate to, having aunties and uncles that have left their home countries and built a family for themselves here in America and in other parts of the world. I can also relate to their children’s behaviour, having cousins that do not understand the need to kneel down to greet their elders amongst other cultural norms.
During this season of celebrating love, family and life, please grab yourself a copy of the DVD or book and relax with a cup of hot chocolate or wine, whichever your choice and share this experience with me.
